Can I get a fine?

Yes, you can. If you perform illegal work, it is a misdemeanor for which a fine of up to CZK 100,000 is set. However, if you stay at the workplace while performing work and you do not prove your identity, e.g. with an identity card, travel document, you risk a fine of up to CZK 200,000.

Can I be deported?

Yes, you can. If you reside in the Czech Republic without a valid residence permit, you can be deported for up to 5 years by an administrative decision. You are not allowed to enter EU territory during deportation.

What are the other consequences of illegal employment?

If your employer has been fined for employing you illegally, it is no longer possible to issue an additional work permit or otherwise rectify the situation. For employers, enabling the performance of illegal work can have major consequences, for example in the matter of future employment of foreigners, drawing contributions, investment incentives or the exclusion of vacancies from the relevant records.

 Am I criminally liable if I intentionally work illegally?

You are not criminally liable, only your employer can be criminally liable.

 If the authorities find out that I work illegally, can they take my money that I have already received? Or can they take the money away from my family if I have already sent it home?

The punishment of an illegally working employee is ensured mainly by a fine that may be imposed on the employee. However, the money you have earned will not be taken away from your family.
